How do I get internet connection to Nintendo Wii?

I do not know anything about gameing. This is my first gameing system since the original Nintendo. My question is…How do I get a “wireless router” internet? If I have my cable modem upstairs and the nintendo wii down stairs, what is my next step to be able to download games and take advantage of using the internet on Nintendo Wii? Thank you
