WoW Skinning - The Masters of Anatomy

December 22nd, 2009 | by Wiiabetes Guest Blogger |

Skinning is one of the three gathering profession in the World of Warcraft. The first step towards leveling this profession is finding the Skinning trainer. You can find the skinning trainers in most of the bigger cities across Azeroth and in Outland. Click here for more: WoW Skinning Leveling Guide

If you take the Skinning profession you can strip animals from their skin and obtain leather, hides and scales. However, you cannot skin all types of mobs and the best types of mobs suitable for skinning are beasts. Note that not all beasts can be skinned either, in example birds.

How will I know if I can skin a mob?

When you kill a certain mob first things to do is loot him. As soon as a mob is looted you can move your mouse over it and if a skinning pointer appears it means that it is a mob that can be skinned. Depending on the level of a mob your skill in Skinning will go up. Lower level mobs will not give you a skill point while the higher ones will.

Skinning equipment?

Skinning doesn’t require some particular equipment. What you do need is a skinning knife. Any general goods trader has this knife for sale as well as any or profession related trader who can be found close to the Skinning trainer.

You can also find better skinning knives in the game which improve your skinning skill. Finkle’s Skinner is a knife that drops in the Upper Blackrock Spire from the Beast and Zulian Slicer that drops in Zul’Gurub from the High Priest Thekal.

There is also an enchanting formula available - Enchant Gloves - Skinning formula that will give +5 on your Skinning skill and another one that will give +10. For the best leveling guide click here: WoW Ultimate Guide

Combination of Leatherworking and Skinning

Skinning is a nice profession especially when combined with Leatherworking because Skinning can provide you with all the materials that are needed for Leatherworking. Without these it will be impossible to level it. You could buy the materials on the Auction House but it would be better for your wallet if you take combine Leatherworking with Skinning.

Leather is not only used for crafting Leatherworking items. Engineering, Tailoring and Blacksmithing all have patterns and designs which require leather.

Skinning - Profitable or not?

Skinning is definitely a profitable profession because it is so easy to gather leather. Mobs suitable for skinning can be found everywhere and even if you are just skinning lower level mobs you can still sell them nicely on the Auction House. It doesn’t even really matter which level you are because you can sell each type of leather for great amounts of money.

Classes that go for Skinning

When it comes to the choice of professions, each player should choose professions he finds interesting, even though in general, Skinners and Leatherworkers are usually found in classes who can wear leather, such as Rogues or Druids. You can also see many Hunters with these two professions simply because this class is the best class for grinding leather.

What is Master of Anatomy

In the Wrath of the Lich King Skinners were presented with a new ability - Master of Anatomy. This ability increases you critical strike rating by a certain percentage depending on your skinning level. The maximum that you can get is +40 on the critical strike rating when your Skinning is at 450 skill level. If you would like more on WoW Leveling, click here: WoW Leveling Guide
