WoW Alchemy - Transmuting the Wisdom
January 4th, 2010 | by Wiiabetes Guest Blogger |One of the favourite crafting professions in the World of Warcraft is definitely Alchemy. Many players chose to level this profession because it is fairly easy to level it fast and because it is useful in more ways than one. An alchemist mixes, transmutes and creates. An Alchemist has a purpose to create powerful consumables such as pots, flasks and elixirs and useful primal or metal transmutations. Click here for more on WoW Alchemy Guide
Alchemy & Herbalism
Alchemy and Herbalism are a perfect match. Alchemy is simply dependent on Herbalism since it needs a lot of herbs for its progress.
Alchemist’s tools and requirements
In order to create flasks, pots and elixirs an Alchemist needs herbs and vials. The vials can be obtained at any vendor who sells Alchemy Supplies found in all the major cities. On higher levels of their skill Alchemists can perform metal transmutations as well as transmutations of certain elemental materials.
To be able to conduct any transmutation an Alchemist will need a specific item called the Philosopher’s Stone. This special kind of stone is created by an Alchemist himself and it needs to be in his inventory whenever he wishes to perform a transmutation. With specific transmutes, the Philosopher’s Stone will have a certain cooldown, which means that an Alchemist cannot make another similar transmutation until the cooldown runs off.
Special features of Alchemy
With a higher alchemy skill, an Alchemist will be able to create some interesting soulbound trinkets. Depending on his spec, there are 3 different types of this trinket to choose from. These are: Mercurial Alchemist Stone – for dps casters and healers, Mighty Alchemist’s Stone – melee dps and Indestructible Alchemist’s Stone - tanks. When equipped, any of these trinkets has the power to increase the overall effect of hp and mana pots (effect increased by 40%). With the latest expansion WOTLK players are only able to consume one pot per fight so being in a possession of one of these trinkets can come in as very handy, particularly for any mana user.
Another great thing about Alchemy is that the flask duration is prolonged. A flask once consumed has duration of one hour. However, for any Alchemist flasks last for 2h! This can save a lot of gold and it is very practical.
Specialization
When he reaches the higher levels in Alchemy, an Alchemist will need to choose one of the three specializations. These specs are Potion master, Elixir master and Transmute master. By choosing one of these he will be able to occasionally create extra potions, elixirs or an extra transmute.
What can Alchemists discover?
While transmuting an Alchemist will also occasionally discover a new transmute. Same goes for the pots and elixirs. Since Wrath of the Lich King expansion Alchemists are able to perform a Northrend Alchemy Research to achieve new recipe discoveries. This research can be done every third day since it has a cooldown. To complete their research an Alchemist needs 10x Adder’s Tongue, 10x Goldclover and 4x Talandra’s Rose. Apart from these herbs an Alchemist needs to provide four Enchanted Vials found at any Alchemy Supply vendor in the Northrend area.
Elixirs and Flasks
Elixirs and Flasks have a lasting effect on a consumer. When it comes to elixirs you can combine only Battle and Guardian types of elixirs. Elixirs have duration of one hour and their effect will disappear upon one’s death. Effect of a flask is also one hour in duration, however, if a player dies the flask effect will not disappear.
